Luciano Darderi is the latest player to be beaten by Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open.Alcaraz is one of the big US Open favourites this year, and he is yet to drop a set in New York so far this year.Despite another seemingly comfortable victory over Darderi, Alcaraz did require a medical timeout from the physio.Although he was on the losing end of the third round match, Darderi has now sent a heartfelt message to Alcaraz.Photo by Clive Brunskill/Getty ImagesLuciano Darderi sends message to Carlos Alcaraz on social mediaDarderi has enjoyed a successful second half to the season, winning two clay court titles after Wimbledon. As a result, Italian Darderi has actually won more titles than Jannik Sinner this year and was able to become seeded for the US Open this year. This enabled him to achieve his best ever result at the US Open, before Darderi was eventually beaten by Alcaraz, 6-2 6-4 6-0.Following his straight sets defeat to the five-time Grand Slam champion, Darderi wrote a message on Instagram reflecting on his first appearance on the Arthur Ashe Stadium and wished Alcaraz luck going forward.More Tennis News“Was a pleasure to play on Arthur Ashe today and can’t wait to be back next year in @usopen,” Darderi wrote. “Good luck @carlitosalcarazz for the rest of the tournament.”There was concern for Alcaraz in the second set of the match, as he received medical intervention on his leg after being broken back by Darderi.Alcaraz managed to recompose himself and did not lose a single game after being massaged by the physio. When he was asked about this in his press conference, Alcaraz played down any concerns about his knee and claimed it was just precautionary.“I’m feeling good. It was just a precaution,” said Alcaraz. “I asked for the physio. I felt something that was not good in the knee but after five or six points it was gone.“I just asked for the physio to take care of the knee because there was one serve left [in the second set] and I had to be ready, had to be good, had to feel good physically. It was a precaution. I will talk with my team but I’m not worried about it.”Alcaraz will be hoping that this is the case when he plays his fourth round match at the US Open against Arthur Rinderknech.Rinderknech has already beaten a Spanish seed at this year’s US Open in Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, but his record against Alcaraz does not make for good reading.Alcaraz has beaten Rinderknech in all of their three previous meetings, including at the US Open in 2021.
