Tottenham Hotspur transfer news latest: Thomas Frank boost as target 'keen' on move away from Premier League club

Tottenham Hotspur have been on the lookout for reinforcements this summer, and they reportedly receive a boost in their hunt for a Premier League player.

Tottenham Hotspur target Yoane Wissa is still keen on a transfer away from Brentford, the latest report has claimed.

Boss Thomas Frank will lead his side out against Reading on Saturday in a friendly, and he will hope that his side's preparation for the 2025-26 campaign can lead to a successful debut season.

The team finished 17th in the Premier League last term, but with the addition of players such as attacker Mohammed Kudus, there is optimism amongst the fanbase that the Londoners can challenge for Europe.

Kudus may not be the last forward to join considering there have been strong links to Brentford's Wissa, who has a year remaining on his contract, though the Bees have the option of extending his deal for another 12 months.

Ben Jacobs reports that while Brentford would be reluctant to lose Wissa due to the expected departure of winger Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United, the player himself is open to an exit, while the club are braced for bids.

Is Wissa the right target for Tottenham?

Wissa would almost certainly be able to contribute positively at Spurs considering he was coached by Frank for four seasons at Brentford.

Having someone familiar with his style of play could help the Tottenham boss settle into his new role, but there are risks associated with the forward's signing.

Bringing in a 28 year old - he will be 29 in September - on a long-term contract would be inherently risky due to the possibility of decline, and he would have little resale value in his thirties.

Additionally, Tottenham may risk bloating the squad with forwards given they still boast the likes of Dominic Solanke, Richarlison, Son Heung-Min, Mathys Tel, Wilson Odobert and Brennan Johnson in their ranks.

Wissa would make more sense if Spurs were to move some of their stars on, but while players such as Richarlison have routinely been linked with exits, many transfers are yet to materialise.

It would arguably be better if Tottenham looked to bring in defensive reinforcements, especially as first-choice centre-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have often picked up injuries.
