AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi questioned India's decision to play cricket with Pakistan in the Asia Cup despite suspended diplomatic ties following terrorist activities, including the Pahalgam massacre. Speaking at a rally in Ichalkaranji, Maharashtra on Monday, Owaisi criticized the government's stance while clarifying he had no issues with the Indian cricket team that won its ninth Asia Cup title against Pakistan in Dubai. Owaisi addressed the rally to launch his party's campaign for upcoming civic polls in Maharashtra's Kolhapur district. The Hyderabad MP highlighted India's various actions against Pakistan, including Operation Sindoor and restrictions on water treaties, airspace, and trade.

‘Operation Sindoor on Field’: Modi, Jaishankar Mock Pakistan After India Wins Asia Cup

"After Pahalgam, India launched Operation Sindoor and destroyed terrorist sites. India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty , stopped Pakistani planes from using Indian airspace, barred their boats from entering Indian waters and halted trade. When all of this has been done, why are we still playing cricket with Pakistan? What was the need to play that match?" Owaisi questioned. The AIMIM leader emphasized his criticism was not directed at the Indian cricket team. "Indian cricket is a great team; Pakistan's team is no match for it. I am not questioning our players. My question is for the Prime Minister. Modiji, you yourself said that blood and water cannot flow together, and that dialogue and terror cannot go hand in hand. You said Operation Sindoor is still on. In such a situation, why did we play those matches?" he stated. Owaisi criticized Prime Minister Modi's social media post comparing India's cricket victory to Operation Sindoor. "By equating a cricket match with Operation Sindoor, the Prime Minister is insulting the valour of our armed forces. How can a sporting event be compared to their sacrifice?" he remarked. He questioned what Indian Air Force pilots who conducted the BrahMos missile strikes would think about this comparison. Owaisi also criticized US President Donald Trump 's claims about mediating Indo-Pak tensions during the May military conflict. He pointed out that Trump's tariffs were causing job losses in India while the BJP focused on nationalism. The AIMIM leader faced opposition from some Hindutva organizations during his visit to Kolhapur. Responding to a police notice, Owaisi reminded authorities about his role in a government delegation to Gulf countries, where he presented India's position on terrorism following the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor.
