Official: Fluminense sign Thiago Silva from Chelsea

Thiago Silva announced his departure from Chelsea the other week, and now his next move has become official as well. As expected, the Legendary defender has signed with his boyhood club, Fluminense, to finish out his playing career.

The move will go through at the end of the European season, on July 1, and Silva will be eligible to play starting on July 10. But the 39-year-old will be allowed to start training with his new team following the conclusion of the Premier League season on May 19.

Silva, who didn’t quite make the grade as a teenager at Fluminense, would end up playing for them for a couple years before his move to Europe in 2009, where he reached football greatness with AC Milan, PSG and then Chelsea. He’s signed with Flu for two years now, after which he will hopefully look to return to Chelsea (where his sons will continue to play in the Academy) in some sort of coaching role.

Good luck, O Monstro!
