Micah Richards claims Ruben Amorim said something about Man Utd that's absolute 'nonsense,' he doesn't 'buy into' it

Sky Sports pundit Micah Richards has shut down a major claim that Ruben Amorim has now made about being the manager of Premier League side Manchester United.

Ruben Amorim has been placed under the spotlight in the media and the punditry world since the 40-year-old Manchester United manager arrived at Old Trafford.

The under-pressure Portuguese coach has had to weather a storm of criticism over his approach at the Red Devils, including his tactical system for United.

Amorim has also come under fire for United’s run of form under him and the Premier League club’s mixed start to the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.

The Red Devils have been unable to string together back-to-back Premier League wins under Amorim since he replaced Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford in 2024.

Ruben Amorim oversaw the Red Devils’ return to winning ways ahead of the start of the October break, with United comfortably beating Sunderland 2-0 at Old Trafford.

United’s result over Sunderland moved the Red Devils up to 10th place in the Premier League table after the opening seven league matches of the season.

The Red Devils have won three Premier League matches in the 2025-26 campaign and Amorim has been open about the huge expectations on his shoulders.

Gary Lineker brought up that Amorim had mentioned that being at United outweighs the pressure that is felt being at other Premier League clubs as a manager.

Speaking to Alan Shearer and Micah Richards on The Rest Is Football podcast, he said: “I think Amorim said, didn’t he, the other day that the weight of Manchester United is greater than perhaps some of the other clubs.

“I don’t really buy that. I don’t really buy that. Yeah, he said it there.”

Despite the Premier League win over Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday, Amorim will face a huge test in the post-October international break.

The United manager will lead his side to Anfield on 19th October for their Premier League showdown with fierce rivals Liverpool.

Richards, much like Gary Lineker, felt that Amorim was exaggerating the pressure and expectation at United compared with other Premier League sides.

“I don’t buy into that. I think it’s nonsense,” he said.

“I think when United were winning the leagues, they got all the praise. You spend a billion quid and you finish in the bottom half of the Premier League. You deserve a bit of scrutiny.”

United and Liverpool’s Premier League clash at Anfield is slated for a 4:30pm kick-off time in the UK.
