Two members of the Australia women’s team were allegedly “touched inappropriately” by a motorcyclist before their Cricket World Cup clash with South Africa in Indore, India.

The incident occurred while the players were walking to a café on Thursday, according to Cricket Australia.

“CA can confirm two members of the Australian women’s team were approached and touched inappropriately by a motorcyclist while walking to a café in Indore. The matter was reported by team security to police, who are handling the matter,” a statement issued on Saturday read.

The suspect has been arrested by Indore police, according to reports in India. There are no further details at this stage about which members of the Australia team were victims and they named a full-strength side for their match against South Africa on Saturday, which they won by seven wickets.

Both teams were already through to the final four before their final pool match of the one-day international tournament. Australia, who topped the league table, will face India in the second of the semi-finals on Thursday, while South Africa will meet England on Wednesday.

Australia, who are three points clear of South Africa, are the only unbeaten team in the competition and are the strong tournament favourites. England’s only loss has been at the hands of Australia and they will finish their group-stage matches on Sunday against New Zealand, who were eliminated after losing to India earlier this week.

The final of the tournament takes place on Sunday November 2 in Mumbai, with the winners pocketing a record prize pot of £3.5million.
