"The only Grand Slam final – singles, doubles or mixed doubles – she’s yet to reach."That's how organisers of the US Open 2025 tennis Grand Slam announced that Venus Williams would be competing in the mixed doubles event this year.At 45 years old, the four-time Olympic champion returned to the competition courts last week, after 16 months away, with opening round victories in the women's singles and the women's doubles events at the Mubadala Citi DC Open in Washington DC.On Tuesday (29 July), it was confirmed that the American would line up in mixed doubles alongside compatriot Reilly Opelka for the US Open, having previously included the pair on a preliminary entry list. The duo will receive a wildcard for the revamped event.Williams has previously won the Australian Open and French Open mixed doubles titles and reached the final at Wimbledon. Her best run at her home Slam in Flushing Meadows is to the quarter-finals in 1998.Venus won Olympic silver in mixed doubles at Rio 2016, alongside Rajeev Ram. She also won singles gold at Sydney 2000, and three women's doubles golds alongside sister Serena, at Sydney, Beijing 2008, and London 2012.
