Rayan Cherki star puts Man Utd on alert as Man City man on revenge mission

Despite netting a goal that brought the aggregate score to 5-4 in extra time and seeing team-mate Alexandre Lacazette extend the lead to 6-4, Cherki could only watch as United mounted an astonishing comeback to win 7-6, with Bruno Fernandes , Kobbie Mainoo, and Harry Maguire all finding the net to put the Red Devils into the final four. Now a City player, Cherki is eager for retribution against United.

Manchester City's new recruit Rayan Cherki has boldly declared his intention to "kill" Manchester United in their upcoming Premier League clash next season. Cherki, who recently completed a £34million switch from Lyon to the Etihad Stadium, experienced English football when Lyon faced United in the Europa League quarter-finals in April.

The 21-year-old expressed his discontent with United's victory over Lyon, saying: "I didn't like it when Manchester United won the game against Lyon because I'm a Lyonnais. Now I am waiting for the game to kill them. I'm here to win all the games."

Cherki added that he will not be a like-for-like replacement for departed club legend Kevin De Bruyne, warning:

"I'm not Kevin De Bruyne – he's the legend. I'm here to help the team and take it game after game and I hope I win all the time with the team. Pep [Guardiola] told me he loves the No 10 position, but now I am ready to play all positions on the pitch.

"It's not complicated, I just want to play. I spoke with Pep about my position and we spoke about what I enjoy when I'm on the pitch. It's very good for me. Pep told me: 'When you have the ball, you are free,' which is good because it's my first [best] quality to help the team."

However, before Cherki can focus on United, he will compete in the Club World Cup with City. They enter the tournament as one of the favourites and will play in Group G alongside Morocco's Wydad AC, UAE's Al-Ain, and Italy's Juventus.

City and Chelsea are the two English clubs set to compete in the Club World Cup in the United States this summer.
