Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea squad appears to be getting stronger and stronger ahead of next season, especially with the arrival of Joao Pedro this month.

The Blues completed the signing of Joao Pedro, 23, from Premier League rivals Brighton at the beginning of July.

Even though the Brazilian attacker was on holiday, he joined up with Chelsea’s group immediately and made his club debut in the win against Palmeiras at the Club World Cup quarter-finals.

Chelsea fans raved about Pedro’s debut against Palmeiras, where he caught the eye as a substitute in the centre-forward position.

All of a sudden, Blues head coach Enzo Maresca has plenty of different options in the No.9 position. Nicolas Jackson now has competition from summer signings Pedro and Liam Delap in attack.

The Brazilian forward, who can play wide or central attacking positions, has definitely cranked up the competition for places even further.

Joao Pedro insists he’s ready for step up

According to Chelsea signing Pedro, he’s definitely ready to make the step up at Stamford Bridge.

When asked if he’s ready to step up at Chelsea into Champions League football, Pedro said via Sky Sports: “When I left Watford, I was in the Championship; I went to Brighton. They played Europa League, and if you watch the group stages, I was the top scorer. I think I’m ready for the new challenge; that’s why I joined Chelsea.”

Maresca wanted Chelsea to sign Pedro because he admires his ability to play anywhere across the frontline. We’ve got a feeling that the summer signing could be a great fit in Maresca’s system.
