It is a title currently held by Moises Caicedo, who seems unfazed by the prospect of passing on the mantle.Liverpool has struck a deal with Bayer Leverkusen for Wirtz that could reach a staggering $158 million (£116 million). The Reds are set to shell out an upfront fee of $136 million (£100 million) for the midfield maestro, with an additional $22 million (£16 million) in achievable add-ons.Should those conditions be fulfilled, Wirtz will eclipse the record set when Caicedo joined Chelsea two years ago for $156 million (£115 million), with his medical scheduled to take place this week.Caicedo, who is away at the Club World Cup with Chelsea, shared his thoughts on Wirtz's potential transfer to Liverpool ahead of the game against Los Angeles FC on Monday night. As reported by Sky Sports News, he said: "I didn't know Liverpool was going to pay that. "It's good (that Wirtz could cost £1 million more than him), it's good."Yeah he's a great player. I think everybody watching [can see] how he plays he's a very good player. So I'm happy to hear he's [coming] to the Premier League."(Image: Getty Images)Previously, Liverpool had been contenders to sign Caicedo alongside Chelsea and had an offer of $151 million (£111 million) accepted by Brighton and Hove Albion. However, the talented playmaker chose a move to Stamford Bridge. Following a tough initial season, Caicedo found his stride in his second year at Chelsea, earning the accolade of the team's Player of the Year.Liverpool's missed opportunity with Caicedo paved the way for Ryan Gravenberch to step into the role of the team's deep-lying midfielder, a position in which he thrived last season as the Reds clinched the Premier League title.Wirtz is set to take on more offensive duties upon his arrival. The 22-year-old had an impressive run last season, netting 10 goals and providing 12 assists in the Bundesliga.Ahead of his arrival, ex-Liverpool striker Dean Saunders told talkSPORT: "He is a world beater and it is going to be like watching Thiago."When he played for Liverpool, he did things that nobody else can and i will be the same with Wirtz. Liverpool doesn't carry anyone. There are no passengers and that is why Liverpool won the league"He can beat people, he scores goals, gets assists. He can play off the left and come infield, or in the 10 and more centrally. It makes you wonder if Slot is going to get rid of Jota or Nunez because they can't all play.
