Patriots fans quickly understood how much Drake Maye loves football, which seemingly makes him a perfect fit with Mike Vrabel.Mike Felger caused a ruckus on social media when he criticized Maye for not appearing at Vrabel’s introductory news conference. The New England quarterback had a valid excuse and also reshared a post congratulating his new head coach on Instagram. But in an interview with SiriusXM, the 22-year-old revealed he did speak with Vrabel this month.“He reached out to me, we got on the phone. He’s been awesome,” Maye said, per ESPN’s Mike Reiss. “Obviously a guy who has done it, played in the league, won a Super Bowl — you have a respect of what he’s done and seen what he’s done. I think the biggest thing is he’s been a head coach and he knows what it’s like. So excited to get up to New England and get things going.”That excitement also was felt by Patriots fans who were pumped to see how Vrabel and Josh McDaniels — who Maye also had high praise for — could develop the North Carolina product in his second season.Story continues below advertisementMaye spent this week enjoying the Pro Bowl festivities and will have to wait until spring to get to work with a new coaching staff.
